At present, the use of fossil fuels corresponds to 82% of the total world primary energy supply, coming from oil, coal and natural gas. However, the reserves of these fuels are limited and their use has significant environmental effects. This is why, since the first oil crisis, renewable energy sources have been a focus of study because they are renewable, sustainable and cause less impact on the environment; and within these, is the hydraulics, wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, among others. On the other hand, China, Germany, Spain, and the United States consolidate themselves as pioneering countries in the development of the greatest installed capacities and technologies for the use of these.
In Chile, the use of renewable energies amounts to 13.62% (2843 MW) and approximately 90% goes to the Central Interconnected System (SIC), where, wind energy contributes 1021 MW, which translates into a 5%. The latter consists in the conversion of the kinetic energy of the air flows into electrical energy by means of a wind turbine. On the other hand, within the wind energy it is possible to differentiate wind farms built on land (on-shore) and others on the sea (off-shore), where in the latter it is possible to reach higher average wind speeds and lower fluctuations due to to the absence of physical barriers.

According to the importance of the use of renewable energies such as wind power and the estimation of its potential in Chile, the following report produced a mobile application called EoXplora that obtains speed data (km / h) and a time series registered by stations of the Agromet-INIA portal, the wind potential of these stations was calculated. The wind potential data delivered will be available for Agromet stations in Chile.
